Nice to see the internal doors my former colleagues and me built at IFE Tebel (NL), at least those seem to be in good working order. I remember some of those glass doors were very narrow, we were wondering how a large beer-bellied German could get through.

Took this train about 10 months ago and then something hit the powerline and we had to wait two hours in Padborg for buses, which is not great with an omnium cargo bike. We were dropped in Kolding or Fredericia in the middle of the night, where an ic3 to Copenhagen showed up. But with 4 steps up, these trains are not great for people with bikes, wheelchairs or big suitcases. Just run the German double deckers with drivercabin on this line, they have a lot of space for bikes. The second time i took this train, stranded again at Padborg, due to a suicide in Sjealland. The Danish crew had to be taxied in from around Copenhagen to Padborg. And the German crew also took a taxi back. All in all a really big downgrade IMO. The old ic3 that went on the ferry was fun, but it should run more frequently and there really should be way more bicycle space and it should be legal to travel on traons with two wheel cargobikes without boxes. Only one Flixbus is worth to take, but its the night bus from Amsterdam. The others are pure crap. Its very difficult to be carless to travel to Denmark, and still then its super expensive. We really needed that tunnel a long time ago, and it seems time has been standing still in the 20 years i did not live in Copenhagen...

A huge amount of work has been done on them before entering service with Trenitalia. In the Benelux more than 600 single points requiring attention were noticed. Big mistake the Dutch and Belgian Railways made that there were was a lacking operational envelope and incomplete penalty clausules in the contracts, so it was difficult to hold Ansaldo-Breda acountable for all of these. About many failing points they simply replied with "this was never specified", even when parts flew off while driving trough a few cm of snow this was the reply. It's common sense to me when a train has to operate it will encounter snow in most of Europe at some point, even on the route in the video.

I commuted with Mälartåg every day for a year, Uppsala-Stockholm. It was pretty terrible. The train was 10+ min late into Stockholm twice a week. And was often cancelled on my way home, so the commute could take 3 hours. Once I was gonna take a piss on the train, but when I pressed open the electronic door there was a pygmy african man (he was 160 cm at most) hunched over the toilet seat, sniffing cocaine from a notebook. This train departed Uppsala at 06:11 mind you.

In gothenburg, sweden, our trams from the 80s will be refurbished a second time due to the huge failure of the ansaldobreda trams from the 00s. The old trams will be kept in service more than 10 years longer than the ansaldobreda trams, which are 20 years newer, meaning that the ansaldobreda trams last 30 years less than the old trams.

TLK trains are great if you're lucky. They are notorious for their delays, bad smell in the summer, dirty toilets, terrible co-passengers - if you travel often you'll meet that from time to time. EIP are much better, but the only problem is that they are present only in the biggest cities, and to some people their price is prohibitive.

Tram or light rail would probably have been better for the 2 itself, which is in the end the most important line in the city, but it is really not to be understated how nice it was that this solution came with dedicated bus lanes for other lines on the busy parts of the Aalborg Station <-> Grønlands Torv section.

One advantage with Rapi:T is that it runs slightly later. The last northbound Haruka leaves 22:15 but the last Rapi:t leaves 23:00 Sad thing is the Nankai airport express is only 5 minutes slower and is never overtaken by Rapi:t. So other than its art-deco stature and premium seating there isn't much to write home about the RApi:t in terms of travel time.

  • @thewildbunchASD

Big mistake. Also, why did they want trains that only run 250 on a high speed line? The new ones have also no capacity and are even uglier. They still hold up the real high speed trains of ICE and Eurostar too. Its one big joke, all they had to do is buy some real high speed trains, make Amsterdam South the high speed station as it connects central station by metro, and clear the schiphol/central station corridor of any high speed trains/ intercities and only run sprinters on there to serve the airport. They should have bought the old eurostars that got sold off years ago instead of new unknown trains.

I love hearing the P42 idle. The loud noise you are hearing is not the locomotive itself, but rather the HEP generator that provides A/C and power to the cars. When the locomotive isn't providing HEP, they are very quiet. You'll find these all over the United States. They might not be the fastest at 177 KMH, but they have a unique look, and they're reliable.

In 1981 the French built the 1st true HST line in Europe, then they broke the world speed record on rails 3 times, 1981: 380 kph, 1990: 515 kph, 2007: 574 kph. Belgians thought "If the French did it, we can too!". They launched their own "TGV" (FYRA 250) on december 2012. Pathetic failure. Breakdowns, premature rust, pieces lost in the countryside, front hood cover, some bolts lost too... After a month of operations, less than 45% of trains ran on schedule. FYRA 250 was finally abandonned on 18 january 2013. Only one month running! Huge laugh burst in Europe...

Thalys isn't a "Belgian" project. At the beginning it was 70% owned by the French SNCF and 30% owned by the Belgian SNCB. The rolling stock was 100% French TGVs. The 1st belgian HS line HSL 1 was built between 1993-1997. 72 kilometres in 4 years. For comparison: Paris-Bordeaux HS Line, last leg 340 km: January 2012-July 2, 2017, 5 years (500 heavy works including 24 viaducts, 3 million tonnes of ballast, 1.1 million tonnes of concrete sleepers, 13,000 catenary supports)

Impressive speaking of the train there are way more futuristic than the JR West 271/281 series which actually operates the airport train to Osaka Final Destination Kyoto. Oddly the competitor 281 series looks like a Nederlandse Spoorwegen ICM with a different track gauge 1.067m vs 1.435m

It went from 08:34 to 08:00! Must have been a fast train 😂 then it slowed down and arrived at Kansai at 08:09 😂

before Japan has influx of Tourist like this, about 10 to 15 yrs ago. Nankai Rapid wasn't that popular, it was eclipsed by JR West's Haruka., while Train looks absolutely nice. it only goes to Nanba, and Nankai Namba station is actually real faraway from other lines. now its different story, due to influx of tourists.

You are correct however the nankai doesn't go to Kyoto unless they have a trip that goes all the way up there from there the JR West Haruka is a better choice. However when my mother went there her sister ended up driving to 63 miles 101 km distance between kix and Kyoto
